An Open Letter to Juli

Dear Juli,

You may not remember me but I've written about you before on my blog. I've been following your every post the best that I can, even when I barely had time to.

I want you to know that there are so many people out there like me who truly appreciate what you share with us. It isn't just that I enjoyed your writing or that it helped me decide on my beauty purchases. It was more than that. It's how generous your spirit is to want to share everything you can with us, to help work together towards the beauty that we all innately covet as females. I so appreciated how much effort you put into that Asian series, for want of an example. That itself showed your labor and love in researching everything, doing all the work for us, so we can learn to cater to our own features, to celebrate and cherish our differences. Indeed, just because I look unconventional and don't have features of the classically beautiful, doesn't mean I'm not a beauty in my own right.

I have no advice on what to do with your skin or which dermatologist you should go to. I know so little myself. I won't even tell you ah, beauty is skin deep anyway, just embrace it, have faith in your inner beauty, go out and do everything you were going to do, and do it with pride. No. If you don't feel like being around people, if you feel like hiding and crying yourself to sleep in mourning, do it. Take your own time and space to work this out. Don't let anyone make you feel superficial for being so affected by this.

Like I said, I really have nothing to offer you - no sage advice, no financial help, no sad stories of my own to share, but what I can do is virtually wrap my arms as tight around you as I can, and remind you that you'll get through this. And to let you know that we always see you as the beautiful person you are.

Love,
Sabrina.

Girls, you need to read this to know what Juli's going through. Read it, and offer her a few comforting words of your own. Let's all send out our ray of sunshine, surround her in the biggest virtual hug we can manage  :))

I leave you with one of my favourite songs from Jason Mraz, The Sunshine Song. His words have gotten me through many bad days, and I hope this is no exception. He says it so sweetly and simply, "You should look as good as your outlook."

As the sun shines on other people's houses
And not mine,
And the sky paints those clouds in a way
That it takes away the summertime,
Somehow the sun keeps shining upon you,
while I kindly stand by.
If there's a light in everybody,
Send out your ray of sunshine

You're undeniably warm, you're cerulean,

You're perfect in desire.
Won't you hang around
so the sun, it can shine on me,
And the clouds they can roll away,
And the sky can become a possibility?
If there's a light in everybody,
Send out your ray of sunshine.
