Neesya Skincare and How to Achieve Fairer Skin

This post has been a long time coming - since the media launch on the 4th of July, in fact. I'm wondering how to break it down because there's so much I want to cover, so just bear with me as it could be a disastrously long post. I just don't want to miss out on any details :)

ETA: This post was so crazy long that I decided to split it into two. The first post will talk about achieving fairer skin and introduce the Neesya brand, and the second will be my personal review having taken the 14-day challenge.

First and foremost, you have to know that Neesya is a homegrown Malaysian brand, which admittedly lent me a degree of skepticism. Seeing the other brands out there, can you blame me though?

The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry

Just how many of them were recalled, over and over and over again by the authorities for containing banned substances known to be carcinogenics like hydroquinone and mercury.

Gosh, it stresses me out just thinking of all the blissfully ignorant people out there using those products and just happy at the almost miraculous results, not knowing the risk they're putting themselves in to look prettier. In fact, I have a handful of friends who aren't quite ignorant about it, but either not caring or not able to stop. I see where they're coming from - the skin so many shades lighter they can see, but the risk of cancer is just so much less tangible. And some aren't able to stop because when they try, their face just gets so awful! I've seen it myself.

Those are really potent ingredient, guys. Have you read about the woman who used N****** and claimed her skin, which was just fine before, suddenly grew really thick and dark patches all over? The company obviously refused to be linked to her skin problem. Ladies, that's ochronosis - Google some pictures to if you need a mental image to scare you off if you must. Studies have demonstrated these banned ingredients to be an immunotoxicant and a neurotoxic, not to mention a reproductive toxicant. Is fair skin really worth your future?

Okay, enough with this rant. But please do yourself the favor and refer to National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau's list of  Cancellation of Notification of Cosmetic Products before any local purchase!

Safer Alternatives

Now that you know some of the active ingredients that you have to steer clear from, you're probably wondering if a brighter complexion is impossible. Of course not. There's the trusted kojic acid, glycolic acid, vitamin C and arbutin, among others. They're a lot milder, but if you commit to it, you'll see the results (or more likely, those around you will point it out to your pleasant surprise.) Alright, back to introducing this new brand:

Neesya - Butterfly in Greek

The brand's inspiration is the butterfly as it represents natural beauty and hidden potentials which will unleash itself with the transformation. Touting themselves as the skin illumination specialist, they promise skin that shines from within in 14 days. I thought that was a pretty bold claim, and I was ready to put it to test. Will link up the review in a few days - watch this space ;)

Neesya's technology

They employ LumiScience°™ Technology, a trademarked formulation containing plant extracts, and it's 100% Halal :) Some of the key active ingredients include Silver Vine Extract BG-30, AcquaCell, Regu®-Age PF, Alpha-Melight and Acqua-Biomin Gem Blend (a biotechnological formula derived with precious gems) Their 360° approach to skincare includes brightening, protecting and renewal. For translucence, they use anti-carbonylation at the stratum corneum for that diamond-like shine.

Skin Essentials - Ancillary range
Eye & Lip Makeup Remover (110ml) RM 35.00

I was contemplating getting this with my 20% off media discount! My current eye & lip makeup remover is by Maybelline, simply because it's the cheapest drugstore find and I need many bottles to keep one in each room I live in, haha. The Maybelline makeup remover is also a biphased makeup remover, but it's a no-nonsense straightforward one. I'm curious if the addition of sunflower oil and vitamins would make a noticeable change? If I get to try it, I'll let you know.

So I said that my personal review after using it for two weeks will be coming later, but here's a spoiler of the star product...         *drumroll*

...wait for my rave of this product!

Neesya Launching Media Event
Even though beauty is far from his niche, the founder & CEO Chris Yong, has a resume impressive enough to pull off this venture successfully:
The setting was so dim that dark and grainy was the best my camera could give me.
We were given the full-sized products to try at home, and we also tried them out during the launch itself to visualize the immediate effects.
Swensen's sundae - so chocolatey you will die.
My family and I used to always spend our weekends at Swensen's, but I haven't tried this particular chocolate sundae. After the treat, we all went to the newly opened Neesya storefront:

The dazzling Fiona (of the fame) & I in front of Neesya Subang Parade. She's used Neesya for a week before this picture was taken.
I actually think this is the most important picture of this post. Hear me out. You know all that fuss with translucent skin that just shines from within? Isn't Fiona the prime example of having achieved this ideal? In fact, it's quite a blow for myself on my terrible skin day (chin breakout!) and having forgotten to wear colour on my lips (in attempt to make me look less like a dead fish with anemic lips) to be taking this picture with her. I couldn't stop staring at this picture! My skin just looked so sallow and in fact was leaning towards a distinct green tint. Forget shining from within, with my dry skin it couldn't even reflect light - resulting in a very matte and one-dimensional face. In fact my skin almost looks photoshopped to look that flat! I end this post with this reminder and comparison of my skin at this point of time, and a group photo of us all at the launch :)
